Global Strategy Group has brought on Bill Burton to serve as executive VP and managing director of the Democratic firm’s Washington D.C. office.
The former White House deputy press secretary was a co-founder and senior strategist at Priorities USA Action, the Super PAC that spent some $58 million on President Obama’s reelection—more than any other Democratic outside group.
“GSG is an outstanding, dynamic and rapidly growing firm. I couldn’t be more excited to join such a talented team,” Burton said in a statement. “I look forward to building on our strong presence in Washington, and to extending GSG’s unrivaled combination of strategic thinking and sharp execution that the firm provides for its clients.”
Business Insider labeled Burton one of the “most powerful people of 2012” thanks to the work done by Priorities this past cycle. Despite spending around $30 million less than either Restore Our Future PAC or American Crossroads—the leading spenders on Team Romney—Priorities was credited by many with helping define Mitt Romney early by producing some memorable ads.
Burton also served as national press secretary on Obama’s first presidential campaign and as Rahm Emanuel’s communications director at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in 2006—when Democrats took back the House. He’s been a communications advisor to former House majority leader Dick Gephardt (D-Mo.) and Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.).
