A Pennsylvania lawmaker is proposing a tax on political advertising to raise money for state-subsidized health care, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. The 6-percent tax, levied on television and radio spots for presidential, statewide and state legislative candidates, would raise an estimated $6.6 million.Consultants and politicians from both parties suggest that the tax would limit freedom of speech and penalize the “little guy” with even more expensive campaigns. In response to those criticisms, Rep. Anthony DeLuca (D-Allegheny County) said that the tax could be extended to other forms of advertising.”People would be happy to tax all that stuff,” he said.
