Chris Hughes, of Facebook and Obama for America fame, has signed on with Democratic media buyer GMMB as strategic adviser. Hughes is one of Facebook’s co-founders and was on Obama’s online campaign team. “After the Obama campaign I just took some time to think about what I wanted to be doing,” Hughes tells Campaign Insider. There was speculation that Hughes would head to the White House to work in the new media operation, or even back to Facebook. His GMMB duties: “I’ll be helping out in a general way with online outreach and strategy for a diverse group of clients,” Hughes says. The GMMB gig isn’t full time, but even so, some in the tech world think it’s a curious place for Hughes to land. Asked if he expected to push GMMB to do some new things when it comes to online outreach, Hughes said he’s already impressed with the firm’s approach and will focus on helping “expand and configure” the new media strategies of the firm’s existing clients.Shane D’Aprile is senior editor at Politics magazine. sdaprile@politicsmagazine.com
