The Center for Western Priorities’ 2022 Winning the West poll examines Western voters’ views on outdoor issues leading up to the 2022 midterm elections in the swing states of Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and New Mexico. The poll found that outdoor and public lands issues are critical to motivating Western voters and points to voter frustrations with the lack of action on conservation policies. 90 percent of voters say that national public lands, parks, and wildlife issues are important to them, and 81 percent of voters say that these issues will play an influential role in how they vote.
The poll also found bi-partisan support for President Biden’s America the Beautiful initiative, but are looking for more progress. Additionally, a strong majority of Westerners want to invest in renewable energy. As gas prices rise, many believe it is time to invest in renewable energy both to break dependence on oil and gas and protect public lands from drilling and extraction.
