Sing a Song for a Good Cause

Ever wonder who sings a better rendition of “Pour Some Sugar on Me” – Democrats or Republicans? At the end of October, you may have a chance to find out.

The American Association of Political Consultants Mid-Atlantic Chapter will host the first “Karaoke in the Capital” event on October 21 and the Rock and Roll Hotel on H Street, NE. The AAPC is billing the event as a chance to see Democrats and Republicans put aside their differences for one night and sing for a good cause. A portion of the proceeds will go to Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, which provides instruments to children in need.

“The earth may fall off its axis,” joked AAPC Mid-Atlantic Chapter president and Democratic media consultant Bud Jackson.  “After the past couple of weeks it will be amusingly surreal to watch Democrats, Republicans and the media having fun together, exchanging off-key remarks for off-key notes.”

Tim Teehan of Lobbyists.info, one of the event’s sponsors, noted that the event will at least provide a reprieve from the usual muzak inspired cocktail party soundtracks.

“First Tom Delay on Dancing with the Stars and now ‘Karaoke in the Capital,’” he said.  “This could be the best Washington, DC event ever to sponsor.  One less boring cocktail party is music to my ears.”

The event is being put on by a bevy of sponsors, including Politics. The AAPC has yet to announce any A-list attendees, but says it will in the future. Tickets cost $15 and are available at www.KaraokeIntheCapital.com.  Jeremy P. Jacobs is the staff writer at Politics. He can be reached at jjacobs@politicsmagazine.com
