Vectis Strategies, a California-based bipartisan public affairs firm, has hired Democratic consultant Kathy Bowler to lead the firm’s Sacramento office.
Bowler, who will maintain an independent campaign consultancy, is a former head of the California Democratic Party and state director for Vice President Al Gore’s 2000 presidential campaign.
“Kathy restored the fiscal and political operations of the State Democratic Party after the devastating 1994 election cycle, which left the state party deeply in debt after losing the State Assembly and numerous statewide offices to Republican control,” Peter Kelly, a former state party chairman and founding partner of Vectis Strategies, said in a statement. “She came in as executive director of the Democratic Party and turned things around, and today the State of California is solidly blue.”
Vectis, which means leverage in Latin, also has offices in Los Angeles, San Diego and Washington, D.C. It was launched in February by former Congressmen Tony Coelho (D) and Ron Packard (R), along with Kelly and Republican strategist David Herbst.
“I am personally delighted to have someone with Kathy’s vast Sacramento experience and well-respected relationships in the California and national Democratic Party join our firm,” Coelho said in a release.
Packard added: “Kathy’s enduring partnerships with state and local Democratic leaders will provide incredible value to our clients.”
The hiring could help the new firm expand its client list. Since launching earlier this year, it’s been registered as a lobbyist in Washington for Biosynthetic Technologies and Edison International.
