Some Democratic consultants are rethinking the traditional business model in 2021. Take Lockwood Strategy, which began life as an in-house agency for nonprofit ACRONYM. Launched as a standalone shop at the start of this year, CEO Shannon Lee Kowalczyk said the goal is to offer a nonprofit model to clients. What does that look like?
“Transparency, calling bullshit, making sure we’re poking holes in this — we want to bring that into the work that we’re doing for other clients,” she told C&E. “In a world where so much of this work is opaque for a lot of people, we want to be open and transparent because that is the best way to lift all ships. It’s still nonprofit owned [by ACRONYM], and that’s important as we start to become more externally facing. We’re not just flipping on a dime to make a bunch of money.”
