It was building a campaign website for a friend who was running for local office that got Shane Daley into politics. That was back in 2003, when campaign websites were still far from a ‘must have’ and his friend’s opponent had to scramble to build one of his own in response.
The next year Daley launched Online Candidate with a goal of making it easy for other local candidates to create their own campaign websites. But it wasn’t until 2008 that things really started to take off, when the Obama campaign’s use of digital switched everyone on to the advantages of campaigning online.
